Island Invasion: New Content Update !


Island Invasion just got updated !

A new weapon, a new Island, Grenades and new enemies have been added, along with a few graphical improvements.

-- Graphical and Cosmetic changes --

-Added a day night cycle, a full cycle lasts 5 minutes. On top of the graphical changes, fighting enemies in the dark is fun ! (you can still see them thanks to their bright eyes and emissive parts). If you prefer to play without it, it can be disabled in the options menu.

-Added flocks of birds in the sky. Their behaviour is based on the boids algorithm, a textbook example of emergent behaviours. Their presence should not disturb you, as they fly above and away from the main playing area, but watching them is quite entertaining. (They can also be disabled in the options menu, if you want). Some birds live directly on the islands, and are not using the boids algorithm.

-Fixed a bug with the water: it should now be properly affected by fog.

-Most islands now have their own soundscape: you can hear seagulls in the sea and tropical islands, frogs in the swamp, ...

--Equipment additions--

-A new weapon has been added: the auto shotgun ! It has a fast fire rate and high damage, but is pretty innacurate. It has the highest durability of all shotguns. Thankfully, the enemies don't use it.

-Grenades: grenades can be found within crates or after liberating an island. They are single use, throwable tools with varied effects: healing you, damaging enemies, ... Only one can be carried at a time, and you can know which grenade you are carrying by looking just above your ammo indicator.

--Map changes--

-Added a new island: the tropical Island. It is loosely based on Scarif from Star Wars, and is populated with palm trees, seagulls and shipping crates and containers. Perhaps its most defining feature are the two transport ships located on the landing platform. They can provide good cover, be sure to use them in combat !


-Crates: 0 to 2 crates may spawn on each island. They can only be opened after the island is liberated. The blue crates contain one grenade each, while the rarer golden crates contain one guaranteed rare weapon ! They have been added to encourage players to explore the islands they liberate, rather than just sprint to each control node to be done with it as soon as possible.

--Enemies--

-The Elite robot (the one with yellow lights) has been changed. The previous version used an energy shield like the shield bot to protect itself upon taking damage: this made him hard to kill and frustrating to fight. He now possesses a different shield, which is always active, but can only absord a certain amount of damage before breaking. When this happens, the elite will retreat to cover, to recharge his shield. They can still attack, wether the shield is up or not. Think of the Elite from Halo.

-A new enemy type has been added: the Drone. It may not hit as hard as the regular robots, or be as resistant, but its unpredictable movement and high accuracy (it can predict your movement and lead his shots) means you'll have to watch out for him, especially when low on health. It comes in three unique variants.

(The drone below is actually a friendly one, which follows you around and helps you fight enemies. All other drones will fight against you though.)
